In 2022, Catalyst Trade made the careful expansion into Kenya. Read how our strategy there exemplifies our 3-stage model of sourcing coffee with our partner producers while keeping intentionality, prosperity and longevity in the foreground.
By the time we had returned from 3 weeks in Ethiopia and Kenya, I was thinking, a lot, about what people told me when I asked them: “What’s not working in the Kenyan coffee system?” We spent time with the management and day laborers at coffee factories throughout the coffee-growing regions of Kenya. Remarkably, we heard nearly the same answer from every single person.
For coffee importers of all sizes, value propositions and experience levels, the topic of Ethiopian coffee raises more uncertainty than perhaps any other this year. On February 9, Catalyst Trade Co-founders Zele, Emily and Michael will convene for an online event to sort through issues such as pricing, unrest and much more. We are inviting coffee professionals at all stops in the supply chain to share their insight and attend as we prepare for the 2023 Ethiopian coffee harvest together.
Throughout 2022, Catalyst Trade’s Sourcing and QC teams have been back and forth between Portland and Jaén, and in late November, we made one of our biggest announcements of the year: We are expanding into Peru! I’m excited to share with you the WHY behind this, our second expansion.
Looking for coffee that will change your perspective on what's possible in Peru? Here's what to expect from Catalyst Trade's newest green coffee line up from the under-appreciated origin.
